Central Deckhouse and Mast
After removal of the old deckhouse, mastro-Pachos contemplates how much larger to make the new opening of the hold compared to the original opening. This will determine the dimensions of the new central deckhouse and how much of the deck will need to be cut away.

After burning, the wood is painted with minium (lead tetroxide) primer. Note: this minium primer was not obtained commercially but was made by Thanasis Dritsoulas from Lavrio minium powder mixed with linseed oil and other ingredients.
